Corona vaccine to be ready by September?

The whole world is literally waiting for effective vaccine development to eradicate coronavirus which has infected more than 3.12 million people in the world. About 35 companies and academic institutions are racing to create a Covid-19 vaccine. Among them, Oxford University is ahead of everyone, already trying with human testings.

The scientists say that they are pretty confident that a coronavirus vaccine will be widely available by September. The university lab has already worked on other viruses, like a close relative of COVID-19. Sarah Gilbert, a professor of vaccinology at the University said – “I have a high degree of confidence about this vaccine because it’s a technology that I’ve used before”.

How does its vaccine manufacture? Well, the common cold virus which is neutralized is injected into the coronavirus’ genetic material so that it cannot spread in people. The modified virus will mimic COVID-19, triggering the immune system to fight off the imposter and providing protection against the real thing. Moreover, it has also reportedly shown intended results in protecting rhesus macaque monkeys that were exposed to heavy quantities of COVID-19.

In the human trials, 550 participants are given the vaccine, and another 550 receive a placebo. “It feels like finally, I am able to do something…” said Oxford scientist and trial volunteer Elisa Granato. Therefore, the largest drugmaker in the world, based in India, is said to commence producing a huge number of the Oxford vaccine doses by September, even before they’ve been proven to work.
