#DDLJ25: SRK and Kajol’s Bronze Statue In London

The film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (DDLJ) starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles, is the longest-running Indian film in theatres and is one of the iconic films on Indian cinema. The film gave a huge stardom to both SRK and Kajol and they happen to be the best on screen couple because of their terrific chemistry.

DDLJ which released on October 20th, 1995 completes 25 years tomorrow and so marking the silver jubilee, a bronze statue of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol is set to be unveiled in London’s Leicester Square.

Leicester Square’s ‘Scenes in the Square’ movie statue trail features the gems of cinema and represents a different decade of world cinema starting from 1920s. This means DDLJ represents the 90’s era of changing world cinema and is the first Bollywood film to have a statue in London.

This is indeed a moment of pride. DDLJ was the directorial debut of Aditya Chopra, son of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra. The film was made with a budget of Rs 4 crore and it went on to collect Rs 89 crore at the Indian box office and Rs 13 crore overseas.

“@iamsrk and @itsKajolD’s #DDLJ Statue to be unveiled in Leicester Square Statue to mark the film’s 25th Anniversary. #DDLJ25,” tweeted the official handle of Yash Raj Films.
