After a losing streak, Kings XI Punjab is now on a winning streak. They have registered their fifth win in a row. They have gotten an eight-wicket thumping win against Kolkata Knight Riders. With this victory, the KL Rahul-led men are very much alive in the playoff race. On the other hand, KKR had put themselves in a bit of trouble with the defeat.
After winning the toss, Punjab’s captain KL Rahul elected to bowl first. Punjab got a good start as they have managed to scalp the wickets of Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi and Dinesh Karthik in the first two overs itself. Then, Eoin Morgan (40) and Shubman Gill (57) settled the things for KKR and they did it in a big way. When they fell, no other batsman rose up to the occasion which limited KKR to a minimal score of 149/9. Punjab’s bowlers Mohammed Shami (3/35), Chris Jordan (2/25) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/20) should be commended for their brilliant efforts.
Punjab was very clear in chasing the target. They got a good start from the openers, KL Rahul (28) and Mandeep Singh (66*). The former got out after an opening partnership of 47 runs. Then, Mandeep and Chris Gayle (51) did the job for Punjab. Their 100-run partnership has confirmed the victory for Punjab. Gayle got out when they were on the verge of winning the game. After his dismissal, Mandeep and Nicholas Pooran finished the game by scoring 150/2 in 18.5 overs. Kolkata Knight Riders will next face Chennai Super Kings on October 29 and KXIP will take on Rajasthan Royals October 30.
