Game Over for PUBG in India!

PUBG will no longer work in India starting from today. Tencent Games, which owns this hugely popular mobile game, has formally made a statement that PUBG will no longer be available for users. It made its statement public on its official Facebook page.

PUBG has been banned by the Centre as a crackdown on Chinese apps over national security concerns. “Dear Fans, To comply with the interim order of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology dated September 2, 2020, Tencent Games will terminate all service and access for users in India to PUBG MOBILE Nordic Map: Livik and PUBG MOBILE Lite (together, “PUBG Mobile”) on October 30, 2020,” read the FB post of PUBG.

Further the post stated that “Protecting user data has always been a top priority and we have always complied with applicable data protection laws and regulations in India.”

PUBG game was originally developed by PUBG Corporation, a South Korean gaming company and later Chinese company Tencent Games bought the game and developed it. In just a couple of years time, PUBG became an addiction among youth. Many people were making a living with PUBG as well.

TikTok and PUBG were the most popular apps among Indian users. Post the India-China standoff at the border, the Centre banned over 150 apps that belong to China.
