A powerful earthquake hit Turkey. A 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit the Aegean Sea in western Turkey destroying many buildings. People from around Izmir city ran out of buildings to seek safety.
The people and teams started digging into the rubble to search for survivors and so far, there is a report saying 4 people died and more than 120 people were injured.
Buildings in Bornova and Nayrakli were destroyed. More than 20 buildings in Izmir city were destroyed by the tremors. The quake hit 14 km northeast of Neon Karlovasion town on the Greek Islands of Somos but the impact of the quake on Greece is not clear yet.
The earthquake struck at a shallow depth of 10 km according to USGS, while the Turkey disaster agency recorded the depth at 17 km.
