A 17-year-old girl bled to death in a crowded street in Visakhapatnam on Saturday after her throat was slit open by a man who was allegedly angry after a heated argument with her. The accused was taken into custody, police said.
The victim, Varalakshmi, was attacked by Anil on the road near Saibaba temple, Sundarayya Colony in Gajuwaka area. The accused intercepted her at the temple with a sharp-edged object and committed the crime. The victim died on the spot.
Police suspect that Anil was enraged after the victim apparently “rejected him”.
Responding to the incident, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the bereaved family.
