A 46-year-old maths teacher, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Kothapalli Zilla Parishad Urdu High School in Annamayya district on Wednesday. Local authorities have launched a full-scale investigation, as suspicions of foul play continue to mount.
Ajias Ahmed, a resident of Rayochoti, was reportedly attacked by three Class IX students after reprimanding them for their involvement in a fight. Eyewitnesses claim the students physically assaulted the teacher, striking him on his chest, face, and back, and even breaking his glasses during the altercation.
Initial reports from the school principal, Shabbir Ahmed, suggest that Ajias Ahmed died of a heart attack while being rushed to a private hospital. He reportedly fell ill after entering the classroom and was seen vomiting before collapsing. However, this version of events has been met with skepticism by both the teacher’s colleagues and local residents, who have pointed to the visible injuries on Ajias’s face and body, prompting suspicions that these may have played a role in his death.
The deceased teacher’s wife, Raheemun, has vehemently rejected the heart attack theory, maintaining that her husband’s death was the result of a violent attack. She filed a formal complaint with the police, claiming that her husband was beaten by the students before he collapsed. “This is not a natural death,” she insisted in her complaint.
In light of these conflicting statements, the police, led by Urban CI Chandrashekar, are investigating whether the teacher’s death was linked to the student altercation. Teachers’ unions have also called for a comprehensive inquiry into the matter, urging the authorities to clarify if the physical assault contributed to Ajias Ahmed’s death.
Meanwhile, Rayachoti Education Officer, Subramanyam, backed the principal’s claim, stating that Ajias Ahmed had started feeling unwell after confronting the students, leaving the classroom before collapsing. Attempts to transfer him to multiple hospitals were unsuccessful, and he was declared dead on arrival.
