Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg reportedly sent an internal memo to all the employees warning of ‘an intense year’ ahead and also about laying off more employees.
According to the reports, the internal memo said, ‘I’ve decided to raise the bar on performance management and move out lo-performers faster. The exact number of job cuts is unclear, managers at Meta have been told that more than 5 percent of employees will be removed starting February 10th.
Meta last laid off employees in October after removing 21,000 workers between 2022 and 2023.
The memo to employees reportedly had the CEO saying, ‘We won’t manage out everyone who didn’t meet expectations for the last period if we’re optimistic about their future performance, and for those we do let go we’ll provide generous severance in line with what we’ve provided with previous cuts. We’ll follow up with more guidance for managers ahead of calibrations. People who are impacted will be notified on February 10 — or later for those outside the US.’
The memo further reads, ‘Letting people go is never easy. But I’m confident this will strengthen our teams and help us build leading technology to enable the future of human connection.’
