While Mohini Mohan Datta’s name isn’t closely associated with the Tata Group, he is said to have been one of Ratan Tata’s confidant. Datta’s family was involved in travel business, managing a travel agency named Stallion. In 2013, this agency merged with Taj Services, a part of Taj Hotels. Before the merger, Datta’s family held 80% stake in Stallion, with the remaining share belonging to Tata Industries.

A Six-Decade Connection with Ratan Tata

According to sources within the Tata Group, Mohini Mohan Datta had a relationship spanning over 60 years with Ratan Tata. Their first meeting took place in Jamshedpur in the 1960s, and the two developed a strong bond. Datta has shared in various instances how Ratan Tata personally supported him. In fact, during Ratan Tata’s funeral in October 2024, Datta remembered their close relationship.

Philanthropy and Charitable Contributions

Ratan Tata has allocated a significant portion of his wealth to charitable and religious causes. Family sources suggest that even his sisters are expected to donate their share to social services. It is believed that substantial assets will flow into Tata Trusts through the Tata Foundation.
