Delhi Railway Station Stampede : What Happened?

On Saturday night, chaos erupted unexpectedly in the national capital, Delhi. A stampede occurred among passengers at the New Delhi Railway Station, resulting in injuries to around 15 people.

All the injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals. Alerted by the commotion, authorities rushed to the scene and began efforts to control the situation.

Fire engines were also dispatched to the location. Despite the suddenness of the stampede, the swift action of the authorities brought the situation under control quickly.

Upon delving into the details of the incident, it is known that the grand Maha Kumbh Mela is currently taking place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The Kumbh Mela, which began last month, is scheduled to conclude on the 26th of this month.

As the conclusion of the Kumbh Mela approaches, large crowds are flocking to Prayagraj for holy baths. As a result, not only is Prayagraj itself packed, but the roads, railway lines, and even flights heading to Prayagraj are witnessing heavy congestion.

In this situation, a massive crowd gathered at the New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night to travel to Prayagraj. Passengers started assembling on platforms 14 and 15, where trains to Prayagraj usually halt.

In no time, both platforms became densely packed with people. At that moment, rumors began to spread that trains heading to Prayagraj were canceled. This sudden rumor sparked panic among the passengers.

As the panic escalated, people began pushing and shoving each other, trying to secure their way forward. In the ensuing stampede, many passengers fell to the ground, and around 15 people sustained injuries. Among the injured, it is reported that some individuals with respiratory issues are in critical condition.

Upon receiving information about the incident, railway police, local police, and other emergency personnel swiftly responded. They promptly began rescue operations and made efforts to control the situation. The timely response from the authorities prevented the situation from worsening further.

This tragic incident highlights the immense pressure on transportation services during major religious gatherings like the Kumbh Mela. Authorities are now taking further measures to manage the heavy influx of passengers and ensure such incidents do not recur in the coming days.
