Thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent meeting with Elon Musk in the United States, Tesla has started hiring in India, hinting at soon beginning operations in our country. On its LinkedIn page, Tesla issued job notifications for 13 roles, including ack-end and customer-relationship jobs. These positions are available in Delhi and Mumbai, as per the job notification.
Tesla has long considered entering the Indian market, but Musk has been hesitant, fearing the heavy import duties imposed by our government. However, recently, the Indian government reduced the basic customs duty on high-end cars priced above $40,000 from 110% to 70%, which might have finally convinced Musk to enter the market.
Prime Minister Modi recently visited the United States to meet the new president Donald Trump. During his tour, he also met Elon Musk. However, there was no official announcement of whether Musk and Modi discussed Tesla’s India operations during their meet. But with Tesla’s new move, it looks evident that PM Modi cleared all hurdles for Musk to enter the Indian market. If everything goes well, we can expect Tesla Electric cars to roam on Indian roads in the near future.
