In a tragic accident, 17-year-old gold medallist powerlifter Yashtika Acharya lost her life while she was undergoing training in Bikaner district of Rajasthan. On Tuesday, while Yashtika was training at the gym, a 270 kg rod slipped and fell on her neck. As a result, her neck broke, and she was immediately rushed to the hospital. However, she was declared dead by doctors by the time she was taken to the hospital.
Yashtika’s sudden death came in as a huge shocker for her family, friends and training centre students. Her coach, who was assisting her during training, also suffered minor injuries when the rod slipped and fell on Yashtika.
The Police confirmed that Yashtika’s family didn’t file any case concerning the incident. After conducting post-mortem formalities, her body was handed over to the family members.
Yashtika Acharya was an upcoming star in the world of powerlifting. She also won a gold medal Junior National Games. Her death is a huge loss for the entire sporting fraternity and also reminds us of taking extreme care during the training of sports personalities.
