Ranya Rao ‘Blackmailed’ Into Gold Smuggling?

Kannada actress Ranya Rao was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Sunday evening at Kempegowda International Airport for smuggling gold.

Ranya Rao claimed that she was blackmailed into smuggling gold. Constable Basavarai was also detained for allegedly helping her avoid the security checks. Further investigation might reveal who is blackmailing her.

Ranya Rao tried to bypass security checks with the help of Constable Basavaraju. DRI had a heads-up about her activities and they caught her red-handed with the gold. Officials found 14.2 kg of foreign-origin gold worth of 12.6 crore rupees inside her jacket.

The officials suspected Ranya Rao’s frequent trips to Dubai with her husband Jatin, despite having no family or business there. Ranya Rao often received police escorts to sneak past security checks at the airport. DRI might question Ranya Rao’s husband Jatin soon.

The officials raided her residence at Nandwani Mansion on Lavelle Road and found another Rs 2.67 crore in cash and gold worth Rs 2.06 crore.
