Starlink India: Too Costly? Will Indian Folk Encourage?

Elon Musk has been driving the technological and automotive revolution across the globe through his EV company Tesla and newly launched satellite based internet service provider Starlink.

A few days back, it was communicated that Starlink would be partnering with Jio and Airtel to start its services in India. Now, there’s an interesting report about the possible pricing model of Starlink that is now going viral.

Apparently, Starlink could commence operations in India with monthly tariff ranging from Rs 8000-41,000. One time hardware costs could be around Rs 20,000-30,000. Needless to say, these are highly expensive prices for internet service in India.

The Indian market is largely driven by the masses and on average, it is the sub 1000/month tariff that’s most popular here. In that case, the pricing model proposed by Starlink must be too costly for the conventional Indian folk.

However, we have to wait and see if these are the final prices that will be enforced by the company. They must be doing some research and development about the regional market and bring necessary reforms to their pricing in India.

Essentially speaking, Starlink is a satellite internet service operated by SpaceX. It provides high-speed, low-latency internet access using a network of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. Starlink is designed to offer internet connectivity in remote and underserved areas where traditional broadband options are limited or unavailable.

It works by sending signals between ground stations, user terminals (small satellite dishes), and the satellite constellation. Compared to traditional satellite internet, Starlink offers lower latency and higher speeds, making it suitable for activities like video calls, gaming, and streaming.
