Mumbai to Dubai in 2 Hours: The Underwater Train Revolution

Imagine travelling at breathtaking speed and covering hundreds of kilometres within no time. Yes, this is soon to be a reality.

As part of a revolutionary transportation project, a proposed high-speed underwater train would link Mumbai in India to Dubai, UAE. The project would be supervised by the UAE’s National Advisor Bureau Limited (NABL). The ambitious project comprises a 2,000-km subsea rail corridor under the Arabian Sea, cutting down the travel time between the two cities drastically to just two hours.

With the help of cutting-edge technology, the underwater train, similar to the hyperloop system, would run at speed between 600-1,000 km per hour. The underwater would improve connection between India and UAE, serving to be a quick and effective substitute for the usual air travel.

However, the undersea project is likely to pose numerous engineering challenges. In addition to the enormous amount of money supposedly to run into billions, ensuring structural integrity under high-pressure situations, with all the safety measures and creating sustainable energy sources to power the high-speed trains are major challenges.

The undersea trains are being designed to transport not just passengers but also goods, including crude oil and water, strengthening the trade relations between the countries.

The project is still in the conceptual phase, awaiting nod from the respective governments.

If the permissions are sanctioned, the target completion date is 2030, marking a major milestone in international transportation infrastructure.

If the project takes shape successfully, it could provide the necessary knowledge required to ground more such projects around the world.

It could also reduce the carbon footprint, in compliance with the international initiatives to create effective and sustainable transport systems.
