It’s well known by now that Mark Shankar, the younger son of Pawan Kalyan, was injured in a fire accident in Singapore. The incident shocked not only the Telugu film and political circles but also Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. Mark has since recovered and returned home after receiving medical treatment.
Now, an interesting and heartwarming detail has emerged regarding the incident and how Mark was rescued from the fire. It turns out that a group of Indian migrant workers — daily wage laborers working in Singapore — played a crucial role in saving Mark and several other children from the blaze. Recognizing their bravery, the Singapore government has officially honored these migrant workers.
Mark had been sent to Singapore along with his mother, Anna Lezhneva, to attend a few summer courses. The courses were being held in a three-storey building near the Central Business District on River Valley Road. On the morning of April 8, a sudden fire broke out in the building.
At that time, a few Indian migrant workers were working nearby. As smoke billowed from the building and children’s screams were heard, four of the workers sprang into action without a second thought. They rushed into the building and managed to rescue several children who were trapped inside — including Mark Shankar.
Unfortunately, the incident claimed the life of a young girl who was also attending the summer program. Mark and 15 other children, along with five staff members, sustained injuries. Authorities later acknowledged that the quick response from the Indian workers prevented what could have been a much larger tragedy.
Following the incident, Singapore officials investigated the fire and learned about the crucial role the Indian workers played in the rescue. Deeply moved by their bravery and selflessness, the Singapore government formally honored all four of them for their heroic efforts.
