Pope Francis has passed away at the age of 88 at his residence in Casa Santa Marta, Vatican City, on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025. He was the first non-European Pope in over 1,200 years and the first Jesuit to lead the Catholic Church. Known for his simple lifestyle and reforms, he chose a modest funeral. He will be buried at the Basilica of St Mary Major in Rome. Cardinal Farrell said Pope Francis dedicated his life to serving God and the poor. His final public appearance was just a day before, during the Easter celebrations.
