As per official police records, a total of 208 Pakistani nationals are currently residing in Hyderabad. The city police have provided a detailed breakdown of their visa status amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.
Out of the total:
156 individuals are staying on long-term visas.
13 are on short-term visas.
39 are in the city for medical or business purposes.
Interestingly, no Pakistani nationals with valid SAARC visas are present across the three police commissionerates in Hyderabad.
The SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme typically allows select dignitaries such as officials, journalists, and sports-persons to travel across South Asian countries without a visa. The scheme applies to 24 designated categories, but none of the 208 Pakistanis currently in Hyderabad fall under this exemption.
The latest police verification effort aligns with the rise in national security concerns, especially after the tragic Pahalgam terror attack which resulted in 26 civilian deaths.
