In an unfortunate incident, an Indian mountaineer and a Philippino mountaineer lost their lives on the world’s highest peak, Mt. Everest. According to the reports, they are the first mountaineers to die during this March-May climbing season.
The deceased has been identified as Subrata Ghosh (45) from India and Philipp II Santiago (45) from the Philippines. Reportedly, Subrata died on Thursday below the Hillary Step while climbing down after reaching the 8,849 metres (29,032 feet) peak. Bodhraj Bhandari, a representative of Nepal’s Snowy Horizon Treks and Expedition organising company, stated that Subrata refused to descend from the Hillary Step. It was stated that the Hillary Step is located in the death zone, where oxygen is insufficient for survival.
Bhandari further added that arrangements are currently underway to bring Subrata’s dead body down to the base camp. It was reported that the cause of death will be known only after conducting a post-mortem.
On the other side, Santiago died on Wednesday night at the South Col while climbing up the peak. Reportedly, he passed away while taking rest at his tent.
