Ahmedabad Plane Crash: No Survivors, 242 Dead, Say Police

Air India flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London crashed this afternoon near Ahmedabad airport. Despite taking off successfully, within few minutes, the flight crashed into a medical college hostel building. As per the officials, 242 members were flying on the aircraft including the crew. Now, the reports in the media state that all 242 members passed away.

The media is quoting Ahmedabad CP’s statement to Ahmedabad Associated Press that all 242 members lost their lives and there were no survivors. At the same time, there are reports about the aircraft crashing into a medical college hostel where intern doctors were having lunch.

Going by it, there are reports in the media that the death toll exceeds 242. The media says that close to 20 MBBS students died when the plane fell on the building. Altogether, it is a biggest aviation disaster in India which saddended everyone.

Having said this, the government of India or the aviation ministry is yet to reveal the final details of the deceased. An official announcement is awaited.

The Air India flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick airport crashed minutes after it took off. The pilot has given a Mayday call to the ATC but the signal was lost when ATC responded back. Meanwhile, it is revealed that former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was also on the flight but he is declared dead now. Shockingly, he was the second Gujarat CM to lose life in a plane crash.

Vijay Rupani served as Gujarat’s 16th Chief Minister from 2016 to 2021. Belonging to BJP, he played a crucial role in the development of the state. However, exactly six decades ago, Gujarat’s second CM Balwantrai Mehta also died when the aircraft he was travelling in, was shot down.

In September 1965, Balwantrai Mehta was flying a Beechcraft from Ahmedabad to Mithapur when the aircraft was shot down by the Pakistani Air Force during the Indo-Pak war.

Earlier in 2009, the then AP CM YS Rajasekhar Reddy died in a helicopter crash in the Nallamala forest, due to bad weather.

In 2011, Dorjee Khandu, the CM of Arunachal Pradesh, died when his helicopter crashed into a mountainside because of bad weather.
