U.S. tech billionaire Elon Musk has once again taken a sharp dig at President Donald Trump, this time over the controversial “Big Beautiful Bill.” Musk slammed the Senate’s latest draft of the tax and spending bill as “utterly insane and destructive,” warning that it could destroy millions of jobs and severely harm the U.S. economy.
The 940-page Big Beautiful Bill has been fast-tracked by Senate Republicans ahead of Trump’s July 4 deadline. The latest draft proposes sweeping cuts to vital social programs, including Medicaid and food stamps.
In addition, the bill offers significant tax breaks to traditional industries and proposes increased defense spending. It prioritizes border security and defense over investments in future-focused industries and technologies, while also reducing welfare support.
Amid growing opposition for favoring outdated industries and undermining clean energy, Musk called the bill “strategically harmful” for future industries. Notably, the bill includes Trump’s $350 billion border and national security plan, a $46 billion U.S.-Mexico border wall, and $45 billion to fund 100,000 illegal migrant detention beds.
Another major provision in the bill is the hiring of 10,000 new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, with lucrative joining bonuses, as part of Trump’s large-scale deportation initiative aimed at removing nearly one million individuals annually.
With the bill now heading back to the House for a final vote, Republican leaders are preparing to pass it using their Senate majority. However, several GOP senators have voiced serious concerns about the bill’s social impact, particularly its deep cuts to Medicaid and food stamp programs.
