In the post-COVID era, the country has witnessed the untimely deaths of a lot of healthy individuals. Especially, the people in the age bracket of 30-45 lost their lives most shockingly. While a few breathed their last while working out in the gym, and a few more also died of heart attacks. Such deaths are deemed untimely, and many opined that it all happened because of the COVID-19 vaccines.
There is a general perception in public that many youngsters lost their lives because of COVID vaccines and they did more harm than saving lives. In such a scenario, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India conducted a study over the same by forming a special committee. One of the chief ministers in the country also blamed the COVID vaccines for sudden deaths. Hence, the government did the study and concluded that the deaths are not related to the vaccines.
The first study, conducted by ICMR’s National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE), was titled “Factors associated with unexplained sudden deaths among adults aged 18-45 years in India – A multicentric matched case–control study.” The findings have conclusively showed that COVID-19 vaccination does not increase the risk of unexplained sudden death in young adults.
The second study, titled “Establishing the cause in sudden unexplained deaths in young,” is currently being conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi with funding and in collaboration with ICMR. In majority of the unexplained death cases, genetic mutations have been identified as a possible cause of these deaths.
It has also been revealed that COVID-19 vaccination does not appear to increase the risk, whereas the role of underlying health issues, genetic predisposition and risky lifestyle choices does play a role in unexplained sudden deaths.
