Forget Cutting Cost, AI Adds To Expenditure of Companies

While artificial intelligence is being touted to help companies slash production costs by cutting down on labour and also creating anxiety among the workforce posing a threat to their jobs, a report stated that humans are being hired to fix the mistakes made by AI. Surprisingly, the companies are spending a good fortune on it.

This corroborates with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s suggestion that people should not over rely on ChatGPT, as it has its own flaws.

According to a BBC report, software engineers and writers are being hired by companies that had used AI heavily, to rectify the mistakes made by AI.

A product marketing manager for tech and startup companies, Sarah Skidd, said that AI is fetching her more money. Skidd said that in May, she was approached by a content agency to rework a website copy that was produced by generative AI for a hospitality client. AI was used to save money but the reverse happened for the company.

Skidd said that the AI copy was typically very basic and not interesting while it was supposed to sell and intrigue the customers. Skidd is learnt to have spent about 20 hours to rewrite the copy, charging $100 (approximately …) an hour. The changes made in the copy were not small, instead, she redid the whole thing.

A resident of Arizona, Skidd said that she wasn’t worried over the switch to AI. “There will be no trouble if you are very good at your profession,” she said.

Skidd even said that the ‘re-writing AI copies’ industry is now burgeoning and it is not just she, there are many others involved in such work and making money of it. AI can be an excellent source of income, she said.

In yet another testimony, Sophie Warner, co-owner of Create Designs, a digital marketing agency in Hampshire in the UK, revealed that in the last 6-8 months, she had seen a surge in requests for help from clients who turned to AI for a quick fix, but faced many problems.

In the wake of the above incidents, one has to decide if switching to AI would prove beneficial and then take the leap.
