United States president, Donald Trump is one of the most litigative personalities in the world, and that did not change one bit even after he became the President. His previous misdeeds and questionable practices are still coming to haunt him even to this day.
However, Donald Trump received a significant reprieve from an appeal court in New York, as he was waived off more than a half billion dollars in fines.
Going into the story, Donald Trump was levied a fine of $355 million after he and his company were found guilty of lying about the valuation of their assets to make them look richer. This was a desperate attempt from Trump and his family to get bank loans and deals. It ultimately resulted in court action, and a New York judge imposed a fine of $355 million on Trump.
Subsequently, Trump challenged this judgement at an appeal court in New York. The appeals court said the $355 million fine, which had grown to $515 million with added interests till day was too big and violated the U.S. Constitution rule against “excessive fines.”
So, Trump no longer needs to pay the hefty fine after this new judgment from the 5-judge panel. But nevertheless, he is still guilty in this case as he is confirmed to have lied about his properties. As a result, the court adjudicated that he and his two sons cannot be running any corporate companies for several years.
Reacting to this judgement from the appeals court, Trump tweeted that this is “total victory” for him. Ironically, he might have escaped from paying nearly half a billion dollars in fine but he’s still guilty of misleading.
