BPCL Bets Big on AP: ₹95,000 Cr Refinery to Power State’s Future

In yet another major step towards development, the NDA government has helped the Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) decide to launch a greenfield oil refinery and petrochemical complex near Ramayapatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh. It is estimated that the refinery would cost Rs 95,000 crore and is expected to have a refining capacity of 9 million tonne per annum, enhancing India’s energy and petrochemical infrastructure.

The BPCL is ready to invest a huge amount in the refinery in view of the estimated consumption of one million barrels of oil daily by 2030. The strategic investment will expand the company’s petrochemical portfolio, provide a hedge against volatility, and align with India’s goal of emerging into a global refining hub. BPCL CMD Sanjay Khanna said that the company expanded from one refinery to three, reaching a combined capacity of 40.5 million tonne. The refinery is also expected to provide direct employment to thousands of skilled youth.

In addition, the students from the University College of Engineering (UCE) in Kakinada and Aditya Engineering College, which offers a B.Tech in Petroleum Technology, can also benefit from the BPCL’s refinery, as the educational institutions could go for collaboration with the company, in gaining technical knowledge and other skillset. Scholars from the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) in Vizag can also be benefited by the refinery as it would help in researching deeply into the sector.

This proves that the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh is not confined to promoting only AI and Quantum Valley or the digital technology but is focused on development in a broad sense, involving multiple companies in different sectors. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, considered a visionary leader, is moving ahead with a multi-pronged strategy to make Andhra Pradesh an ideal state in the country, which has risen to riches from a deficit-ridden economy.
