After being banned by the government nearly five years ago, social media platform TikTok now looks set for a strong comeback in the Indian market.
Recently, the TikTok website was reopened in India after almost five years, sparking speculation about the possible resumption of its activities.
Adding weight to these speculations, it is now being reported that the company has begun hiring local talent across the country. TikTok has posted openings for multiple positions, including talent acquisition and leadership roles in various locations. This appears to be a strong indication of the platform’s possible return.
Back in the day, TikTok was one of the fastest-growing video-sharing platforms on social media, with massive reach in India before the government banned it in 2020 due to tensions with China.
Now that bilateral relations between India and China are slowly being restored, the stage seems set for TikTok’s re-entry. The reopening of the website and the new hiring drive both strongly point in that direction.
