In a shocking incident, eight students of a state-run Tribal Welfare Residential School in Kandhamal district, Odisha, were hospitalised after one of their classmates allegedly poured Fevikwik into their eyes while they were asleep.
All the eight students belonged to Classes III and IV and when they woke up in the morning, they were not able to open their eyes. The incident occurred at Sebashram School in Salaguda, Phiringia block and the teachers soon rushed them to Gochhapada Health Centre for treatment.
According to reports, one of the students was discharged after recovery while seven others were referred to the District Headquarters Hospital in Phulbani for specialised care. One other child, in a critical condition, was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Premalatha Sahoo, one of the teachers at the school, said that around 7 am, when she visited the hostel, she found eight students were not able to open their eyes. She later found that adhesive was applied to their eyes. She helped them brush their teeth and eat breakfast before taking them to the hospital. Police are investigating into the matter.
