The heavy rainfall in Hyderabad led to a tragedy. A 26-year-old man losing his life when his scooter got stuck in the deep waters of a flooded railway underpass in Balkampet. Even as reports of the incident made the heart heavy with sadness, there were good Samaritans who helped the motorists in navigating through the strong water currents in other places of the city.
Rain-induced water-logging in Hyderabad revealed the camaraderie among the citizens. Food delivery agents of Zomato and Swiggy, not only delivered food parcels but also proved to be Good Samaritans by helping several motorists pass through the inundated roads which were difficult to navigate in the city.
The food delivery boys helped them in saving their two-wheelers from being drifted away in the rainwater like in Balkampet. Several roads and low-lying areas were water-logged and inundated due to the incessant rain. At some places, the strong water currents made it difficult for the motorists to pass through the roads.
One of the motorists, Sumit Jha, who obtained the help from the delivery boys acknowledged their help. He expressed his gratitude on X by posting: “Hey @zomato @Swiggy, just wanted to share that your riders not only delivered food during this deluge, but also saved me and my bike from being swept away in the stormwater. They did the same for hundreds of people like me trying to reach home at midnight in Hyderabad.”
The delivery boys’ compassionate act gained more significance as they helped the people during the night. The act of helping could have lasted for just a few minutes but the acknowledgement by the benefactor on a social media platform would bring happiness to the kind-hearted citizens.
