Debate On X : How much Payout Will ‘Bandana’ Girl Get For 2 Sec Video?

Social media has the power to turn anonymous people into overnight micro celebrity figures for no reason. There have been many such instances which brought unknown people into the limelight and made everyone notice their talent or skill. At present, a similar incident has been the talk of the town as a two-second selfie is turning out to be one of the most watched clips on Twitter ( renamed as X) platform. The video in question was posted three weeks ago by an Indian woman using the handle @w0rdgenerator with the caption: “Makeup ate today.” It shows her dressed in a ethnic white top, silver earrings, and a patterned bandana looking momentarily into the camera while travelling in an auto rickshaw. 

In what could be termed as an unprecedented reach for a normal X user, the clip has now garnered more than 85 Million views and is on way to touch the 100 Million mark in the next few days. This is quite unbelievable and baffling because there is nothing so exclusive or special in this video except for the fleeting aesthetics that made millions of people across the world to view and repost it. X timeline is now flooded with viral memes, reposts and quotes based on this clip. 

While the girl in the video has been identified as Priyanga by the media, the discussion now is about the payout she is going to get from X for the mad reach she got so far. Netizens have been debating everyday and eagerly waiting to see how much monetary benefit she will gain through this video. 

It is well known that X has been sharing revenue for users after Elon Musk took over it. For every two weeks, verified users will payout based on the engagement of their profile in this period. As the video gained more than 40 million views in first two weeks and 85 million views in less than three weeks, some users predict that she will earn lakhs for this one post. 

However, experienced users on X argue that the platform will not pay based on the view count for a particular post but for an overall interaction of a user with other verified and premium users.
