Bondi Beach Hero Receives Rs 14 Crore Cash Reward

Bondi hero Ahmed al Ahmed received A$2.5m, approximately Rs 14 crore, through community donations while undergoing treatment in the hospital, for his shooting injuries. Fortythree-year-old Ahmed has been hailed as a hero for disarming one of the attackers at the Bondi beach in Sydney that happened on Sunday.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said police officer al-Ahmed’s actions were example of “Australians coming together”. Armed only with a hand gun, the police officer shot dead one of the attackers at Bondi Beach, averting more deaths in the incident.

At the Jewish Hanukkah celebration, two men opened fire at Bondi Beach, killing 15 people and injuring nearly 42 people.

Ahmed saved the crowd from the attackers by taking the gun off the perpetrator, putting his life at risk. He hid himself behind a car and abruptly pounced on the attacker to stop the latter from shooting others. As he was shot multiple times, al-Ahmed suffered a serious injury in his arm and he may lose it.

The attackers Sajid Akram, 50, and his son Naveed, 24, are reported to be having links with Hyderabad in Telangana. The attackers told family members they were going on a weekend fishing trip before unleashing the antisemitic assault.
