One of the World’s Biggest Oil Companies in AP?

Andhra Pradesh is once again gaining national attention with reports saying that one of the world’s largest oil company, Saudi Aramco, may invest in BPCL’s upcoming refinery project near Ramayapatnam port in Nellore district. If this goes through, Aramco is expected to take around a 20 percent stake, while Oil India Limited may pick up about 10 percent.

The project is being planned by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited as a large refinery-cum-petrochemical complex. The estimated investment is more than ₹96,000 crore, making it one of the biggest industrial projects ever proposed in Andhra Pradesh.

The refinery is expected to process 9 to 12 million tonnes of crude oil every year and also focus strongly on petrochemicals, which have growing demand in India and abroad.

One of the biggest advantages of this project is its location. Being close to Ramayapatnam and Krishnapatnam port, the refinery will have easy access to sea routes. This helps in importing crude oil at lower cost and exporting finished products smoothly. It also strengthens India’s energy security and reduces pressure on existing refineries.

The Andhra Pradesh government has already allotted about 6,000 acres of land for the project, showing its clear commitment. This development is seen as part of Babu’s push to bring back large investments into the state backed by strong policies like the Logistics and Industrial Policy 4.O.

Since taking charge, he has been actively engaging with central public sector companies and global investors to restart stalled projects and create jobs.

Once completed, the Ramayapatnam refinery is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, boost local businesses, and put Andhra Pradesh firmly on India’s industrial map again. The detailed feasibility report is expected by February, after which final investment decisions will be taken.
