Make in India! Apple Ships iPhones Worth $50 Billion From India

Tech giant Apple has exported iPhones worth more than $50 billion from India, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed. This achievement is being seen as a major boost to electronics manufacturing under the Make in India initiative.

Confirming a report published in The Economic Times, the Union Minister shared the update on X. He stated that Apple crossed the $50 billion mark, roughly equal to Rs 4.51 lakh crore, through iPhone exports from India. In his post, Vaishnaw said this milestone reflects India’s progress toward becoming a strong producer economy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Reports suggest that in the first nine months of FY2026 alone, India exported around $16 billion worth of iPhones. iPhone manufacturing in the country has also generated more than 3.5 lakh direct and indirect jobs. In 2022, Apple joined the Government of India’s Production Linked Incentive scheme for smartphones, which encouraged global companies such as Apple and Samsung to expand manufacturing operations in India.

Samsung is also reported to have shipped nearly $17 billion worth of electronic products between 2021 and 2025. Currently, Apple operates five iPhone manufacturing facilities in India, three managed by Tata and two by Foxconn. This has helped create a supply chain involving around 45 companies, including several MSMEs. Increased production has also contributed to higher earnings for the domestic electronics industry.

In his post, Vaishnaw highlighted the rapid growth of India’s electronics sector. He noted that electronics production has increased six times over the past eleven years, while exports have grown eight times during the same period. He added that electronic products now rank among the top three export categories from India.

The Union Minister further stated that there are 46 component manufacturing projects currently underway, along with initiatives involving laptops, servers, and wearable devices. He also announced that four semiconductor plants are expected to begin commercial production this year.

Vaishnaw said large scale manufacturing and job creation will help India emerge as a global leader across the entire electronics ecosystem, including design, manufacturing, operating systems, applications, materials, and equipment.
