In what could be considered an extremely necessitated and anticipated action, the government of India has set a new regulation on AI generated and deep fake content on social media.
The Indian government has instructed social media platforms to clearly label videos and images with “AI Generated” tag in order to make it easier for the viewers to understand the source of the same.
Adding to that, the Indian government has made it clear to social media platforms that they need to take down unlawful content from their platforms within three hours. This is completely different from the earlier deadline of 36 hours as this would warrant quick and immediate action from social platforms.
In the recent past, it has become extremely difficult to differentiate between original content and AI generated content due to the extreme realism. Subsequently, it had become very tough to identify what is real and what is fabricated.
And now this latest regulation by the Indian government, which would require AI labelling for Content would make the process much easier. This is a much needed move by the Indian authorities.
At the same time, social media platforms cannot be lazy about removing unlawful content with 36 hours time that was set earlier. They will have to be swift with their actions as the new deadline has been locked at just three hours.
