A few days ago, news came out that Telugu producer Anil Sunkara had recently approached Tamil star Ajith for a big-budget film that was supposed to be directed by Adhik Ravichandran. Initial discussions apparently went well, and things were said to be moving in a positive direction.
However, the project has now been put on hold, with no clarity on when or if it will take off. While the exact reasons are not officially known, film circles suggest that financial considerations could be one of the major factors behind the delay. Reports suggest that Ajith has demanded the makers a whopping ₹160 crore for the project, which shocked the makers.
There is no denying the fact that Ajith remains one of the biggest stars in Kollywood, commanding a massive fan base and strong opening numbers. That said, industry insiders feel that his box office pull in recent times may not fully justify the hefty remuneration being quoted by him.
However, things changed ever since these reports went viral. One of the noted Tamil media outlets slammed the news, stating that the news about Ajith’s next is false, and Anil Sunkara is not the producer, and a Tamil guy has been finalized.
With rising production costs and an unpredictable theatrical market, makers are now being extra cautious before locking such massive deals. But looking at these reports, Ajith’s film is locked, and the Tamil makers have no issues in paying him big bucks. The project will be announced soon.
