Senior Sweepers Earning Rs 2L/Month In Telangana?

Generally, municipality works and sanitation departments are regarded as low paying physical jobs. But that is not even remotely the case in Telangana, as it is being reported that sweepers and municipality workers are earning over rupees 2 lakh per month.

According to the latest statement made by Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao at the 16th Finance Commission, municipal jobs in Telangana are among the highest-paying in the country, as per national media reports.

As stated by the chief secretary, Telangana’s monthly salary and pension bill has surged upto 4 times in last decade. Incidentally, chief engineers of power utilities are being paid up to Rs 7 lakh and senior Class 4 employees like sweepers are being paid around Rs 2 lakh per month.

When Telangana was bifurcated from United Andhra Pradesh in 2014, the municipal expenditure was ₹1500 crore. This grew nearly 4 times to a shocking ₹6000 crore expenditure now.

While entry level municipality, workers can earn ₹28,000 per month, senior workers with over 30 years experience can draw over Rs 1 lakh. Regularised workers can earn a minimum of ₹70,000 per month and additional benefits can be added.
