It is an established fact that a section of Indians have this infamous habit of panic buying and the tendency to overreact sharply to certain incidents. A similar scenario is being observed now in view of the ongoing gas shortage issue.
Due to the restrictions in the supply of commercial gas for hotels and restaurants, even residential users are panicking with this development. On that note, several residential gas users are reportedly ordering gas cylinders in advance as they’re fearing a possible shortage.
This panic buying situation has reportedly led to a digital scam that is currently happening in Hyderabad and the police have warned the public against the same.
According to the communication given by Hyderabad cyber security wing, in recent days, due to the shortage of LPG gas cylinders, many people are searching online for quick booking or extra cylinders.
Cyber criminals are taking advantage of this situation by creating fake websites, fake booking links, and fraudulent messages related to LPG gas booking.
The cyber crime unit has instructed the public not to indulge in these fake websites and WhatsApp messages which promise gas supply as these are not authorised platforms. Public is further instructed, not to share OTP and personal information either.
