Trumps steep $100,000 visa fees are pushing major U.S. banks to ramp up hiring in India, expanding tech hubs that now handle critical tasks beyond call centers. Firms like JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs are shifting work to avoid U.S. costs, with top banks employing 125,000 in India. These Global Capability Centers play key roles in banking operations, raising concerns about future U.S. tax penalties on outsourced services.
During the Covid pandemic, several companies across the world adopted the work from home culture as employees were asked to work from their homes to avoid social gatherings. Recently, there were speculations that a similar situation could return due to the shortage of LPG and fuel supplies.
Last week, there was widespread discussion about IT companies possibly shifting back to the work from home model to deal with the LPG and fuel shortage.
However, IT companies appear to have taken a different route. Instead of allowing employees to work from home, many firms are now asking staff to bring their own food from home rather than relying on company canteens.
Due to the shortage of commercial gas supply, several major companies including TCS, Cognizant, and Accenture have significantly reduced the food menu at their campuses across the country.
Employees are now being instructed to carry food from home at their own expense. Company funded canteens are operating with limited capacity as the supply of LPG has been affected, making it difficult to provide meals for everyone.
While many expected companies to return to the work from home model, firms have instead introduced a bring your own food culture for the time being. This situation is largely linked to the shortage of commercial LPG supply.
If the situation worsens and oil supplies are also impacted, the possibility of work from home returning cannot be ruled out. For now, companies seem to be waiting to see how the situation develops.
