Even to this day, several parts of India witness brutal cases of custodial deaths of common folk and there’s been a growing demand on judiciary to take adequate steps against the concerned police officers to put an end to this.
In accordance with this, the Tamil Nadu court has delivered a sensational verdict regarding the Sathankulam custodial death case where father Jayaraj and son Bennix were killed brutally.
The first additional district court of Madurai has found all nine police officers guilty in this custodial death case and has sentenced all of them to death by hanging.
This is going to be one of the most sensational judgements delivered by any court in recent years and the fact that as many as 9 police officers are set to be hung to death is an indication of the same.
The case originated back in 2020, when Jayaraj and his son Bennix were taken into custody for allegedly keeping their shop open during Covid lockdown. The police then subjected them to extreme violence inside the jail and several unnatural wounds were found on their body after the custodial torture that night.
Judge G Muthukumaran pointed out that the unnatural wounds on the bodies is an indication of the custodial torture they had endured and sentenced all 9 police officers associated with the same to death.
