In a shocking incident that has sent chills down the spine for people across the country, a family of four people died due to suspected food poisoning in Mumbai on Sunday. Both parents and their two teenage daughters are the victims in this mysterious death story that has triggered huge panic among the public.
The incident was reported from the Paydhuni area, where Abdullah Dokadia (40), his wife Nasreen Dokadia (35), and their two daughters Ayesha (16) and Zainab (13) died under suspicious circumstances after consuming Biryani and Watermelon on Saturday night. The exact cause of these deaths is yet to be known.
As per reports, the family ate home cooked Biryani on Saturday night along with guests. Later, all of them had watermelon after a few hours. Within no time, they started feeling uneasy and their health condition began to deteriorate. Though a doctor in the same building immediately attended on them and later took to a nearby hospital, they could not be saved. All of them died in a span of 12 hours, sending shockwaves across the neighborhood.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation. The leftover food and biological samples have been collected during the postmortem to determine the exact cause. Forensic and postmortem reports are awaited for more details.
As relatives who also partook in the feast along with the family and consumed the same Biryani but didn’t develop any symptoms, it appears like the watermelon turned out to be the fatal element may be due to bacteria contamination or any other chemical reaction including food poisoning. One cannot rule out the possibility of adulteration through pesticides or any other additives.
In separate incident, a seven-year-old child died and 18 others were hospitalised on Sunday after consuming ‘golgappa’ and ‘chaat’ from a cart vendor in Jharkhand’s Giridih district. Preliminary reports suggest that food poisoning was the reason for death.
