Stay Behind The Bars At Chanchalguda Jail For Rs 1,000!!!

Miscreants and criminals are lodged in jails as part of punishment and legal proceedings. Even politicos are put behind the bars when they are convicted of involvement in scams and crimes.

Common man considers confining erring individuals jails and barracks is part of a punitive measure. Individuals would not like to be restricted and checked in their actions. But, enthusiastic Hyderabad residents inquisitive to understand and experience confinement in a room for a day could head to Chanchalguda Central jail in Hyderabad.

The State Institute of Correctional Administration (SICA) launched a new initiative “Jail Anubhavam” allowing visitors to stay inside specially designed prison-style barracks featuring iron-grilled cells, beds covered with navy-blue sheets, earthen pots for drinking water and sparse prison-like interiors.

What was once inaccessible to the common people has now been opened for experience. For a 12-hour stay from 6 pm to 6 am, visitors need to pay Rs 1,000 and for a 24-hour stay, it costs Rs 2,000.

The Chanchalguda Central Jail includes different types of prison rooms for men — high-security and dark barracks, and a separate wing for women inmates with embroidery machines. Visitors can have a completely isolated experience as the highly-guarded enclosures are shielded behind two layers of thick iron grills.

Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurated the Telangana Jail Museum, which traces the evolvement of the prison system, showcasing its history.

Entry into the museum has been priced at Rs 10 for students and Rs 20 for general visitors. Children below 10 years of age would be allowed to enter into the museum free of cost.

The Governor said that the initiative reflects how prisons in India evolved from spaces meant to punish miscreants to institutions that focus on correcting the inmates’ thought process and behavior.
