Foreign travel, particularly, Bangkok travel has become quite risky of late. In a latest such incident, three Indian tourists were kidnapped and brutally tortured for extortion. The Indian tourists were reportedly lured with the promise of cheaper accommodation.
A Bangkok gang kidnapped three Indian tourists and tortured them while demanding lakhs of rupees in ransom from their families. Luckily, all the three victims were rescued by Thai police, all thanks to their swift operation.
According to Thai police, the three Indian nationals arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Samut Prakan Province on July 21. They had reportedly booked a seven-day Pattaya tour package worth around ₹1.99 lakh through a group of individuals and travelled to the beach city by taxi after landing.
Upon reaching Pattaya, an Indian man approached the tourists and transported them one by one on his motorcycle to a residential property. Once inside, a gang allegedly took control of them, tied their hands and legs, and held them captive.
The kidnappers then forced the victims to contact their families in India and demanded huge sums of money for their release. The three tourists were reportedly subjected to severe physical abuse and torture during their week-long captivity.
The whole issue came to light after a relative of one of the victims alerted Thai police. Investigators traced the phone numbers used by the kidnappers and found that they were registered in Dubai. Using digital tracking and location data, Thai police eventually identified the hideout on Map Tato Road and launched a rescue operation.
However, the suspects managed to flee the premises just minutes before the police raid. The three Indian tourists were rescued safely, while authorities have launched a manhunt to trace and arrest the accused.
Thai police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the kidnapping racket and identify all those involved.
