In an unfortunate incident, an Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi encountered severe clear-air turbulence during its descent on Tuesday, causing the aircraft to suddenly drop nearly 300 feet. The incident left 14 people injured, including 10 passengers and four crew members. The flight later landed safely in Delhi, giving a huge sigh of relief to all the people onboard.
According to reports, Flight AI 2379 was carrying more than 100 passengers when it experienced the sudden turbulence. The aircraft briefly lost altitude, triggering panic inside the cabin.
One passenger described the terrifying experience, saying the aircraft dropped so suddenly that several people who were not securely seated were thrown into the air. According to the passenger, many hit the cabin ceiling before falling back into their seats. He also claimed that a small child slipped from a person’s hands and landed nearly three rows away during the incident. These eyewitness accounts have not been independently verified.
Another passenger in Delhi shared, “It had been an hour and a half since the flight took off. It was early morning and most of us were sleeping. Suddenly, the aircraft felt like it stopped while moving and then turned. It kept shaking like that for two to three minutes. Around 15 to 20 passengers were injured. There were more than 100 people on board. Around 70 to 80 percent of the passengers suffered some kind of injury. We will definitely take action against Air India.”
Meanwhile, Air India has so far stated that 10 passengers and four crew members sustained minor injuries. The airline confirmed that Flight AI 2379 encountered severe turbulence before landing in Delhi. The airline said the aircraft landed safely and that the injured passengers and crew received immediate medical assistance. An investigation into the incident is expected.
