No Relief For Mallya Even After ₹14,000 Crore Recovery?

Vijay Mallya continues to face legal trouble in India despite banks recovering a huge amount from his assets.

The Enforcement Directorate told the Bombay High Court that the recovery of ₹14,131.6 crore does not bring an end to the money laundering case against him.

The ED said the recovered assets have been restored to the SBI led bank consortium. However, this does not mean that the criminal proceedings can be closed.

Mallya had earlier sought the closure of criminal cases, arguing that the dispute with the banks had effectively been settled after the recovery of their dues.

The ED opposed his plea and maintained that financial recovery and money laundering proceedings are separate matters under the law.

Mallya continues to remain outside India while facing multiple legal proceedings. The latest ED submission makes it clear that the recovery of bank dues has not ended his legal battle.
