Andhra Meal On Singapore Airlines: A Proud Telugu Moment

Recently, a telugu woman on X posted to have ordered Andhra meal with Pappu and Pickle as one of the main food options on a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore to Melbourne. It does look like a small thing. But for many Telugus, it can represent something much bigger.

Already on Pan-Indian level, Andhra Meals are already a big thing in fact became a major food identity of the other cities too as people are found to be waiting in queues to have a full Andhra meal in Andhra Bhavan Delhi to Nagarjuna restaurant in Bangalore.

We often hear about Chinese food, Mexican food, Japanese food and Italian food around the world. One day, why can’t people in New York, London, Singapore, Dubai or Melbourne simply ask for a “Telugu meal” or “Andhra meal” and know exactly what they are getting?

Telugus have all the power and everything needed to make that happen.

Look at countries like Japan and China. Their culture is not limited to festivals or museums. People around the world learn their languages, eat their food, watch their films, play their games and buy their traditional products.

Telugu culture has similar potential. We have Andhra cuisine, Telugu language, Kondapalli toys, Kalamkari, handlooms, music, dance, cinema, literature and thousands of stories and traditions.

We also have a huge Telugu community living across the world. This diaspora can become a bridge between Andhra Pradesh and the rest of the world.

This is where the current ruling government led by Babu has a major opportunity where they can help take Telugu culture global through language-learning platforms, Telugu cultural centres, cooking classes, craft workshops, food festivals and support for Telugu businesses expanding overseas.

This is not just about culture. It can create businesses, jobs, tourism and global brands.

The opportunity is already there.

We should not only preserve Telugu culture. We should build things from it that the world wants to learn, eat, experience and enjoy.
