Big Changes In Mobile Recharge Plans!

Mobile users in India are set to get more flexibility while choosing prepaid recharge plans. TRAI has introduced new rules requiring telecom operators to offer voice and SMS-only plans with shorter validity, including options for 30 days or less. The framework also provides for a plan that can renew on the same date every month.

The change could be particularly useful for people who mainly use their phones for calls and messages and do not want to pay for mobile data. TRAI has also asked operators to provide appropriate tariff reductions for voice and SMS-only vouchers.

One major change is the monthly validity option. Instead of being tied to a 28-day recharge cycle, users will have access to a plan that can renew on the same date each month. If that date does not exist in a particular month, the validity will extend to the last day of that month.

TRAI’s move follows concerns that many prepaid users effectively ended up recharging 13 times a year because of 28-day plans. The new framework is aimed at giving consumers more choice based on their actual usage and budget.

However, TRAI has not fixed the actual prices of these new recharge plans. Telecom companies including Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea will have to introduce the required options under the new framework. The rules are expected to give users more choices, especially those who need a mobile connection mainly for calling and SMS.
