Troubles Of New UK Strain: Hundreds Stuck At Delhi Airport

The new UK coronavirus strain triggered panic across the world. Many countries, including India, canceled flights to the UK. Predicting the travel restrictions to be imposed and the enigma on how long they will stay, many Indians panic traveled to India within the last week. But in new trouble, they are stranded at the airport from last night and for more than 8 to 10 hours. Here is why.

Hundreds of Indians traveled back to India and around 25 of them tested Covid-19 positive so far. With the prevailing new UK strain, the government ordered mandatory tests for all travelers from the UK. The passengers who reached Delhi yesterday night were held at Indira Gandhi International airport for Covid-19 tests and they will only be allowed out after receiving the test results and them being negative.

More than 500 passengers from the UK are stranded at the airport. Above that, the passengers from the UK need to follow a special procedure in tests, and the reports are delayed further due to it, according to the airport authorities.

India canceled the flight services from and to Britain, from December 22 to 31. All the passengers and flight crew who reached Delhi a day before the travel ban are mandated with RT PCR. Along with India, 30 other countries imposed a travel ban from and to the UK.

As there are too many passengers waiting at the airport in Delhi, many of them feel that the physical distancing could not be maintained. On the other side, the experts feel that the new UK strain virus is likely in the country already, as the new strain from the UK is prevalent since September.
