‘Buy For Farmers’ – How an IT Forum Helped Nalgonda Farmers!

The problems of many farmers worsened after the price of tomatoes dropped to less than Rs 2 per Kg. As government has not dared to lend any sort of assistance, farmers are in deep distress and unwilling to pluck tomatoes considering the current market price.

But, the forum of IT professionals called ForIT has come in support of tomato farmers from Nalgonda. While the prices fell to less than Rs 2 per Kg, a group of IT volunteers offered Rs 15 per Kg and sold them at different areas (Attapur, BHEL, Uppal, Miyapur, Hitech City, Patancheru, Gachibowli and Manikonda) on this Saturday. They sold all everything in less than an hour by marketing them with an appeal ‘Buy For Farmers’. The amount earned was directly handed over to the farmers who’re heavily disappointed with the price drop.

The entire load of 2.1 tonnes of tomatoes was sold in 30 minutes, all thanks to the residents of Hyderabad who were quite generous to ‘buy for farmers’ at premium price. Also, it’s an impressive and a highly appreciable gesture by ForIT forum for having understood the pain of farmers and coming forward with the kind of support and solution that they are looking for.
