AP: Playing Rummy, Tambola spreads Corona to 90 people

It is upsetting yet alarming to learn that people seldom remember what social distancing actually is. And oh! Forget even about following guidelines as doing so have become quite challenging nowadays. Staying home and maintaining at least 6 feet distance outside the household is absolutely mandatory in this crucial time. But, the apathy has emerged in one’s thinking process and considering neighbours as a family is sheer foolishness.

Mingling with neighbours for timely games, chit chat, and fun means nothing but you are putting everyone at risk. But, this is leading to more spread in the novel coronavirus and thus, counter-productive. The best example can be taken from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh where more than 100 people have been contracted with covid19 just because colony members gathered to play Tambola, rummy and other fun games to kill boredom.

Earlier, a case has been reported in Vijayawada that a lorry driver who played rummy with his neighbours after travelling many places has now left 24 people getting infected with the virus. Due to lockdown, the driver used to stay at home and to much shock, used to call neighbours to join his family in playing rummy.

The lorry driver’s wife also said to have played tambola with nearby ladies in her community. The family have made sure to entertain all their neighbours in lockdown with frivolous activities but little did they know what damage they are making to the society.

Moreover, another lorry cleaner, who also resides in the same colony have also joined hands with all of them in playing games. Eventually, the driver who got tested positive for covid19 had his neighbour in fearmongering state and all of them in the colony have decided to go for the medical test.

Unfortunately, 56 of them have been tested positive and more than 200 families have been kept in quarantine. Also, an FIR has been filed on the lorry driver for initiating the crowd gathering and disobeying social distancing norms.

Another case in Vijaywada, where a Dubai-returned man became responsible for spreading the novel virus has also left locals in shock. It is reported that the man used to work in a hotel in Dubai and reached Vijaywada via Srilanka and Chennai. The man and his family have decided to keep his travel history as a secret fearing quarantine.

The man also went to work at his hotel in Machavaram as usual, leading to 30 people infected there. The higher official said that the whole Vijayawada city has covid19 cases drastically increased after these three people’s unacceptable behaviours. So far, the city has a total of 233 cases.
