Director Sekhar Kammula seems to be that lone warrior who is standing stronger for the beaten class that took a heavy toll on their shoulders due to Covid-19 enforced lockdown. He has earlier helped the transgender community by sending the essential goods parcel, and then the has extended similar help to sanitation workers who are working at Gandhi Hospital.
Kammula has earlier stated that we haven’t given equal respect to sanitation workers like how we respect doctors and police. At a time when everyone is flowering petals on sanitation workers, Sekhar Kammula took the initiative of giving sanitation workers some masks and chappals, as he has noticed some of them not wearing one. Also, he provided them with some essential goods too including buttermilk and other drinks but has distributed them directly through GHMC rather than making a hungama out of it.
Showcasing their token of appreciation, today GHMC workers from Gandhi Hospital have put up placards, which read, “Thank You Sekhar Kammula”. The photo is worth a thousand words and that has stunned Sekhar Kammula too.
“I’m overwhelmed!! This is a priceless gesture from the GHMC sanitation workers at Gandhi Hospital my biggest award. I feel extremely happy that I could do something that touched you but it’s nothing compared to what you do for us, day in and day out”, the director said, sharing the picture.
