Bharat Bandh Tomorrow : Transporters to protest Against GST And Fuel Price Rise

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) called for a Bharat bandh tomorrow, i.e, on 26 February demanding a review of the Goods and Services Tax regime. It is estimated that nearly 440K traders’ associations all over the nation have come in solidarity.

It is also expected that trucks will stay off roads tomorrow as The All India Transporters Welfare Association (AITWA), have decided to join hands in the protest. The AITWA is demanding the E-Way bill to be replaced with e-invoice besides reduction in diesel prices.

AITWA national president, Mahendra Arya, urged all transport companies to park their vehicles tomorrow as a part of the protest. “All transport godowns will display protest banners. All customers will be approached by transport companies not to book or load any goods on Friday,” he said.

Here are salient points you need to know about the bandh:

  1. All shops and markets across the country will remain closed.
  2. There will be no public transport as the transporters’ association would not run their vehicles between 6 am and 8 pm.
  3. Booking and movement of Bill-oriented goods will be hit.
  4. Protest will likely take place nationwide at 1,500 places and 40 lakh roads will be shut down.

Note: The major demand by protesters is to review the GST system and simplify the complicated tax slabs.
